Founder's Vision:
The founder of Ultimate Fitness, David Englund is an accomplished practitioner and instructor of physical and mental fitness arts. Throughout his career, he has applied his skills to the training, rehabilitation and general conditioning of professional athletes, dancers and people from all walks of life, children to senior citizens. His study of movement and exercise began twenty years ago with the study of T’ai Chi. Impressed by the effectiveness of the ancient Chinese movements, he continued to seek out programs that go beyond strengthening to those that also integrate the physical and mental well being. Englund graduated from the Midwest Center for Oriental Medicine in 1994 where he studied Chinese medicine. He became a Certified Rolfer at the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado. In 1998 he completed the Authentic Pilates Program and was certified as a practitioner and instructor by Joseph Pilates’ protégé Romana Kryzanowska. He became certified as an instructor of the Gyrokinesis® and Gyrotonic® systems in 2001 by the founder, Julio Horvath. Five years ago, Englund founded the Evanston Boxing Club. He has boxed and coached over 150 matches, training 15 finalists in Chicago Golden Gloves tournaments and one national finalist. Among other activities, Englund ran the 2001 Chicago Marathon and competed in the Chicago Wild Onion for the past three years. In 2003 he was a finalist in the New York Wild Onion urban adventure race.
